How Small Towns like Nashik, India could Benefit from WordCamp Incubator Program of WordPress

WordCamp Incubator India

WordCamp is a big umbrella that covers and gathers all WordPress lovers under it. WordCamps are organized with the intention to let WordPress professionals, beginners, fans meet under one roof and share their knowledge and experiences with each other. WordCamps are held every year across several cities of different countries. WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, beginning plugin and theme development, advanced techniques, security, etc. which is all fun around.

According to stats shared by Matt Mullenweg about the growth of WordPress events around the globe for the year 2015, there were 89 WordCamps with 21,000 attendees across 34 countries. A surprising 60% of the 601 WordCamp organizers were doing it for the first time. From this stats we can see there are lot of people organizing and attending various WordPress events but still there are many cities around the world that haven’t experienced even one.

WordPress Community team supports and guides WordPress lovers to organize WordCamps locally. Usually WordCamps are held in those cities that have local WordPress communities conducting active meetups. But there are some regions where enthusiastic volunteers face challenges getting WordCamps organized in their cities. So this year WordPress Community team is trying an experiment called the WordCamp Incubator.

What is WordCamp Incubator Program? Am I Eligible?

Jen Mylo recently posted an article stating the goal of WordCamp Incubator Program:

The intention of the incubator program is to help spread WordPress to underserved areas through providing more significant organizing support for a first event. In practical terms, this experiment means we’ll be choosing three cities in 2016 where there is not an active WordPress community — but where it seems like there is a lot of potential and where there are some people excited to become organizers — and will help to organize their first WordCamp. These WordCamps will be small, one-day, one-track events geared toward the goal of generating interest and getting people involved in creating an ongoing local community.

There are several WordPress professionals across India that have been following and using WordPress from the first release but have lacked in actually growing meetups and so could never bring WordCamp to their city. So if you wish to have a WordCamp in your city then this is a great opportunity. This program will gather WordPress volunteers and professionals together and will flourish this great CMS technology across Indian hearts. If India’s small towns get selected for this event, it will spread more awareness and career opportunities for Indian youths of that area, that always wanted to have a career in something that will have programming or no programming background.

Nashik for WordPress Incubator Program

As Webfanzine operates from Nashik, India our one of the goal is to build a good WordPress community in the city. Our active involvement in Nashik WordPress Meetup group and conducting different sessions at collages are one step towards that goal. Well, the city is having lot many educational institutes including engineering, computer science and many other streams. The potential is tremendous but there is a lack of guidance and participation. Programs like WordCamp incubator will help such small towns or even some rural areas around Nashik and give opportunity to youth around Nashik. Our team has already applied for the program participation and hope to get positive response from the WordCamp Central.

If you want to arrange such local WordCamp with the help of Central and people around your town, this is a very good chance. Just click below link to fill the application form by February 26, 2016 to invite WordCamp as part of Incubator program to your own town.
